See The Beauty, Not The Glass

Experience the brilliance and amazing clarity that conventional clear glass simply can't match. And colors so true you won't believe you're looking through glass.

Why Starphire® Glass is different

Starphire Ultra-Clear™ glass by Vitro Architectural Glass (formerly PPG glass) provides unprecedented options for both exterior and interior applications in commercial buildings and private homes. No matter what you're designing, see your vision come to life with the unsurpassed clarity of Starphire® glass.

Amazingly clear

Starphire Ultra-Clear™ glass is stunningly clear because it contains less than 110  of the iron present in typical clear glass, which means more light shines through. Its luxurious aesthetic will inspire you to find new and creative ways to use it.

Exciting color fidelity

For exteriors, Starphire® glass yields clean, vibrant views and imparts an added brilliance to spandrel, pattern and vision glass because it is free of the green hue inherent in clear glass. In interior applications, it adds a dramatic flair to all types of customized decorative glass.

A dramatic edge

As its thickness increases, Starphire Ultra-Clear™ glass gains a distinctive azure-blue edge, while the transparency of the glass remains ultra-clear, unlike typical clear glass, in which the green hue becomes more pronounced. Starphire® glass stays clear — even at thicknesses of up to 34 inch.

Reliable availability

Starphire Ultra-Clear™ glass is stocked year-round in a wide range of thicknesses, so it's always available for quick, convenient delivery. It can be obtained through hundreds of glass fabricators across the country and around the world by using the Vitro Certified Network.

Look for superior beauty, clarity and functionality when you're designing in glass.

Vision Glazing

For unfettered views of the world outdoors and maximized visible light transmission (VLT), Starphire Ultra-Clear™ glass provides an uncommon brightness, clarity and color fidelity that no other commercial glazing product can match. Read More >

For vision glazings in which enhanced energy performance is required, Starphire® glass can be combined with high-performance glass coatings to satisfy energy requirements, while maintaining the unique ultra-clear visual character—free of the green cast inherent in ordinary clear float glass. To boost VLT and provided a crisper color, combine Starphire® glass with solar control low-e coatings, such as Solarban® 70XL, Solarban® 60, Solarban® R 100 or Solarban® 67. Or to increase the solar heat gain coefficient (SHGC), combine Starphire® glass with a passive solar coating, such as Sungate® 400.

Starphire Ultra-Clear™ glass maintains its remarkable clarity in thicknesses from 110  inch (2.5 mm) to 34 inch (19 mm) and is stocked regionally to ensure consistent supply reliability.

Entrances and Storefronts

With a variety of thicknesses from 14 inch (6mm) to 34 inch (19 mm), and its signature azure-blue edge, Starphire Ultra-Clear™ glass is the ideal choice for a wide range of heavy glass applications, including entrances, storefronts, lobbies and reception areas. Read More >

Starphire® glass' superior clarity makes interiors shine with uncommon brightness and sets a new standard for glass doors, thanks to its jewel-like clarity and sparkling blue edges.

Starphire® glass provides maximum brightness for entryways with higher visible light transmittance (VLT) than ordinary clear glass (in 12-inch glass thickness). Its amazing clarity and color fidelity show products, displays and logos as they really are without the greening and distortion of conventional clear glass, particularly as thickness increases. And because of its absence of color, Starphire® glass can be laminated in multiple layers and thicknesses to provide strength and protection for applications like jewelry storefronts.

Spandrel Glass

Starphire Ultra-Clear™ glass offers spectacular views and true colors, enabling whites, reds and yellows to be seen with remarkable fidelity, thanks to the absence of the green tint inherent in regular clear glass. Safety Glass

For exterior balustrades on balconies, patios and walkways, no other glass compares to Starphire Ultra-Clear™ glass in delivering strength, brilliant clarity and spectacular, true-to-color views. And its luxurious azure-blue edge imparts the chic look of luxury that only adds to the beauty of your design.

Safety and Security

Heavy Starphire Ultra-Clear™ glass is offered in a range of thicknesses that provides a new level of beauty to safety and security glazing applications. Special building projects, such as exterior balustrades and safety barriers, zoo enclosures, fish tanks, jewelry display cases, protective windows and museum cases, present design challenges that often are addressed by using multi-layer laminates. Read More >

Multi-layer laminates, however, prevent objects from being seen in their true colors, as they are degraded by the "greening" effect that occurs with increased thicknesses of conventional clear glass.

Starphire® safety and security glass provides higher visible light transmittance (VLT) than ordinary clear glass in a 1 38-inch laminated glass construction, so you get superior clarity that also conceals the actual thickness of the glass. And it can be fabricated easily to your exact specifications.

Inside Spaces

For interior balustrades, handrails and bannisters, Starphire® glass' jewel-like, azure-blue edge has a distinct advantage over conventional glass, which gets a distorting greenish cast as the thickness increases.
